The Garden

This year I planted most vegetables in pots rather than directly in the ground. This ended up being the best crop I have had in a long time. I think it was because I replaced all of the soil in the pots with new soil that I lugged from the Home Depot into my truck and then out of the truck, through the house and into the backyard.

I originally decided to plant in pots because one side of the garden had garlic growing that I had planted the previous fall. The other side of the garden had strawberries all over the place. Now, I like strawberries as much as the next person; I mean, they taste sweet (just like candy), are high in fiber, good for the colon, all good reasons to grow strawberries however . . . Strawberries are invasive weeds. I don't have a very big garden (about 20 x 8). The strawberry patch in the beginning of the Spring had invaded about 1/4 of the garden. Now, in the middle of Fall, the strawberry patch takes up about 1/3 of the garden. I think I'm going to put in some raised beds in the back of the garden and transplant as many of the strawberries I can stuff into it and try to take back the garden.
